Open Enrollment for Group Term Life Insurance Available During General Assembly

2023 news 3Active eligible U.S. Nazarene ministers and church-employed laypersons may purchase supplemental group term life insurance without proof of health during the 30th General Assembly this summer, according to Kevin P. Gilmore, executive director of Pensions and Benefits USA. The limited open enrollment period for guaranteed issue amounts of up to $250,000 begins June 1 and ends June 23, with insurance becoming effective July 1. There is no age limit for this coverage; however, cost increases with age.

“Occasionally we hear from district superintendents who contact us about ministers who have died unexpectedly without insurance coverage,” Gilmore said. “Some are covered by our survivor benefit, but that may not be enough to support a family over time. Our supplemental group term life insurance from The Hartford is affordable and offers financial protection for a family in case the unexpected happens.”

From June 1-23, 2023, eligible, active ministers and church-employed laypersons may purchase new or additional Nazarene Supplemental Group Term Life Insurance coverage. A maximum of one-half of a primary participant’s coverage is also available to spouses and dependents.

“Open enrollment means ministers may apply for valuable group term insurance without the hassle of a medical exam,” Gilmore added. “We encourage persons to visit our booth at General Assembly or contact our office during the enrollment period to take advantage of this special offer.”
