Retirees of Church-related Pension Plans Suffer LossThe Basic Pension Plan of the Church of the Nazarene is financially stable and not in imminent danger of default, but whether it remains that way continues to be in the hands of districts and churches, according to Don Walter, director of Pensions and Benefits USA. "Due to the decline in asset values, we are now years from being fully-funded and although at present we have sufficient reserves to pay current levels of benefits, this doesn't mean we have a bottomless well from which to draw," Walter said. "Unless we are faithful, we could face the same problems other church-related pension plans are suffering."
