Pensions and Benefits USA has come a long way from its beginnings nine decades ago as the Board of Mutual Aid. In those days, ministers contributed to a pool that was reserved for distribution to the families of pastors who passed away. In Nazarene Archives, one can see the cards that were issued to members of the pool. They indicate the name of the deceased, cause of death, beneficiary, and always include a reminder to send in your next payment.
Today, Pensions and Benefits USA provides some 14,000 ministers and their families with much more than life insurance. But one thing remains the same, every service we provide—from life insurance or emergency medical assistance to pension payments—is dependent on the faithful contributions of churches and districts to the P&B Fund. It is only by working together that we continue to be able to serve those who serve.
The following is our report on the contributions we received in 2009, as well as how we used them. It is submitted for your review in keeping with our sincere desire to be accountable both for the sacrificial gifts we receive and to the ministers we serve.
